OnlineStore.Design

Design is the silent salesperson

Most online stores lose customers before the product page loads. Not because of speed. Because of design. A cluttered homepage, mismatched colours, or a logo that looks like it was made in PowerPoint signals "amateur" before a single product is evaluated.

Principle 1: Brand consistency beats design trends. Your store should look like it belongs to the same business as your Instagram, your business card, and your website. Consistency builds trust. Trends expire.
Principle 2: Typography does more work than imagery. Pick two fonts. Use them everywhere. A clear type hierarchy (headline, body, caption) organises information better than any layout trick.
Principle 3: White space is not wasted space. Give your products room to breathe. Crowded grids feel desperate. Generous spacing feels premium.

Start with identity, not templates

The most common mistake is picking a store template first and trying to make a brand fit inside it. Work in the opposite direction. Define your brand identity (colours, fonts, personality, logo) and then apply it to whatever platform you choose. That way, the store feels intentional rather than generic.

AI brand platforms like SiteBuilder.me take this approach by default: identity first, website and store second. Everything generated shares the same visual DNA.

Less is more, always

The stores with the highest conversion rates share one trait: restraint. Fewer menu items. Fewer banners. Fewer font sizes. If everything is highlighted, nothing is.
